What is the best time of year to install a fence?

Every season has its own weather patterns and challenges — rainstorms, snow, ice, sunny days... the list goes on. When it comes to choosing when to have your fence installed, it may seem difficult to figure out the best season to complete your project.

During the fall and winter, many people are no longer thinking about their fences. Before the cold months arrive, they focus on cleaning their yard and during the snowy months, they shovel their driveway. But for those who have a fencing project in progress or are planning to install a new one in the future, these seasons might actually be the best choice for you.

For fencing companies, the offseason can be a challenge because they receive fewer projects. On the flip side, these seasons are perfect for customers. By not having as many scheduling restraints, fencing teams can tackle any project right away, shortening the standard timeframe of the project.

Winter can be one of the best seasons to install, repair, or maintain your fence. Not only will your fencing project be completed sooner, but materials will also be cheaper to purchase during the offseason and your landscaping won’t be an issue.

The beginning of spring is a great time to thoroughly go through your property and complete everything on your spring cleaning checklist. Since you’re already outdoors going through and cleaning your yard, take the opportunity to evaluate your fencing and complete any necessary maintenance or repairs. Perhaps, you may even want to install a new fence or replace your old one.

A benefit of working on a fence in the spring or summer is that the property will be easier to access. Winter can bring some impressive snowfalls, which can reduce the ease-of-access to the fencing, but spring and summer don’t have this problem.

After you have finished your spring cleaning, summer is just around the corner, providing an opportunity to upgrade your yard with outdoor features such as a fire pit, pergola, trellis, or arbour. If you completed your fence maintenance and repairs before the summer, then you can spend the summer finding fun ways to decorate your fence or you can tackle all your outdoor projects at the same time.

So, which season is best for fence installations?

Luckily for you, fences can be installed at any time of the year. There definitely are some differences depending on the season, but you can leave that up to the fencing experts.

It all depends on your preference. Are you looking for a shorter time frame for your fencing project while spending less money on materials so you can focus on enjoying your yard in the warmer months? Perhaps you want to make additional upgrades to your yard at the same time during the spring or summer.
