Fencing cost comparison: which types of fencing provide the best value?

When deciding which type of fencing to install on your property, it’s important to consider the costs. You will want to choose a fence that is not only within your budget, but also provides exceptional value and meets your property’s needs.

Here are some estimates of what you might pay for different types of fencing, and what you can expect to get out of it. These prices are based on fence per foot in a typical yard, with professional installation.

Chainlink fencing

The cost of a chainlink fence depends on the height and some other details, but you will likely pay between $15 and $20 per foot.

Chainlink fencing is typically one of the more affordable options. Chainlink is great for simply keeping things in and out of your property, but doesn’t offer the same aesthetic appeal, soundproofing or privacy that some other fencing options do.

Wood fencing

When it comes to wood fencing, there are many different types and styles to choose from, and so the cost can really vary. Depending on which style you choose, you could pay from $25 to $30 per foot.

While wood fencing is more costly than chainlink fencing, it’s also usually considered more attractive, offers privacy and can raise the value of your property. It’s important to make sure you purchase a high-quality fence, have it installed properly and maintain it regularly so that it lasts longer.

Vinyl fencing

Vinyl fencing tends to cost more at the beginning, but less in maintenance costs overtime since it is durable and is not easily damaged by the elements.

A privacy vinyl fence could cost from $50 to $60 per foot depending on the style. A simple 3-rail design would likely cost closer to $18 or $22 per foot. Vinyl fencing is a great option if it’s the look you’re going for, and you can afford the upfront costs.

Iron fencing

Wrought iron fencing is a more expensive fencing option, but is still often chosen due to its aesthetic appeal. While iron fencing can cost from $50 to $60 per foot depending on the style you choose, it can also significantly raise the value of your property.

Iron fencing is quite durable, but does not offer much privacy or soundproofing. This is the type of fencing for you if you’re looking for beauty and elegance foremost.

Concrete fencing

Concrete fencing is best for those looking for a fence that will offer excellent privacy and noise reduction. It will cost you between $90 to $110 per foot, but it works.

If your budget is generous and you’re looking for lots of peace and quiet, concrete fencing could be a great option for you.
